Jay-Z has filed a lawsuit against the anonymous woman who accused him of rape and her attorneys Tony Buzbee and David Fortney, the New York Times reports. The woman accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and raping her at a party in 2000 when she was 13; she withdrew her lawsuit last month.
Jay-Z’s legal action was filed on Monday in federal court in Alabama, where the woman lives. Buzbee and Fortney are accused of being party to an “evil conspiracy” to use “false and malicious” allegations as a means of securing a lucrative settlement. The suit states that the accuser “voluntarily admitted” to Jay-Z’s team that Buzbee “pushed” her to make the allegations, despite her telling him they were not true.
Buzbee has responded by saying that the suit has “no legal merit” and that his client continues to stand by her account. “After speaking with Jane Doe today, it appears that the quotes attributed to her in the lawsuit are completely made up, or they spoke to someone who isn’t Jane Doe,”a statement given to the Times reads. “This is just another attempt to intimidate and bully this poor woman that we will deal with in due course. We won’t be bullied or intimidated by frivolous cases.”
Last month the plaintiff acknowledged that she had “made some mistakes” with her allegations and withdrew her claim.
This is Jay-Z’s second lawsuit involving Buzbee, who he first sued in Los Angeles last year for extortion and defamation. He accuses Jane Doe and her lawyers of malicious prosecution, among other complaints and states that his company, Roc Nation, lost more than $20 million as a result of the allegation.
