In The Blue Light out February 2025″>
Dervon Dixon
In May 2024, Kelela played a series of intimate, unplugged shows at the famed New York City jazz club The Blue Note. That run of performances is now the setting of the singer’s upcoming new live album, In The Blue Light, out February 11, which is filled with recordings taken from those nights. The tracklist includes rearranged versions of her hits “Bankhead” and “Take Me Apart” as well as covers like her version of Joni Mitchell’s “Fury Sings The Blues.” Even the dance songs from 2023’s Raven will get a new, jazzy version.
To get a sense of what to expect, you can hear “Better,” the first single from the project out now. In it, Kelela sings a slower, sultrier version of the Take Me Apart track, and audience giggles as well as her own crowd work are included.
Per a press release, In The Blue Light was made in collaboration with Daniel Aged, who’s worked with Frank Ocean, FKA twigs, and Rosalía, and features background vocals from Alayna Rogers and Xenia Manasseh.
Kelela released her last album Raven in 2023 and followed that up with RAVE:N, The Remixes in 2024. See the full tracklist of In The Blue Light, below.
