West Coast rap legend Ice Cube was all over the place in the weeks leading up to Election Day, but has remained pretty quiet since Joe Biden handed sitting POTUS Donald Trump an L. The Hollywood actor/rapper has now come forward to explain what he’s been up to.
Where Did Ice Cube Go?
Say what you want about Ice Cube, but the rapper/actor/director has always been tuned in to the public conversation. Dating back to his time with N.W.A. some 30 years ago, his social commentary is typically on-point. However, the backlash he received from meeting with Trump about doing right by the Black community forced him to fade away.
“I know a lot people been wondering where I’ve been. I was real active before the election, talking about what’s needed, you know, specifically for the Black community. About 10 days or two weeks before the election, I pushed back all the way pretty much until now because I just felt there was a lot of noise, a lot of poison, a lot of people with they own agendas—personal agendas or party agendas—and they really wanted to attack me for what I was doing because it was outside of the line of what they was doing, or what they believed need to be done.” (Twitter)

Cube took a lot of criticism for meeting with Trump prior to the election, but he always said his goal was to help the Black community no matter who is President. With Biden set to take over the job, Cube remains committed to the Contract With Black America plan he originally pitched to Trump.
“I didn’t run to go work with any campaign. Both campaigns contacted me. Both campaigns wanted to talk to me about the Contract With Black America. One campaign said, ‘We love what you have, but let’s really dig into after the election.’ And one campaign said ‘We love what you have, do you mind talking to us about it?’ And that’s what I did, so I didn’t run to nobody.” (Ice Cube’s Twitter)

Cube hasn’t been shy about unloading frustrations toward the Democratic Party over not putting enough emphasis on the Black community. Before the election, he reminded people to think about the party’s track record.
“A lot of people getting up there talking and everybody really eating it up, throwing their hands in the air like they just don’t care — but what I didn’t hear was, ‘What’s in it for us?’What’s in it for the Black community?’ Besides the same old thing we’ve been getting from these parties. What’s in it for us, for real? … I didn’t hear anybody mention a contract with Black America — and I don’t know why because it’s one of the most comprehensive reform documents that’s come about in a long time that could really address the problem. But the way it looks, they don’t have a plan.”

Detroit rapper Royce Da 5’9″ tweeted a thank-you message to White people for stirring O’Shea Jackson. The shout-out came following non-stop anti-racism and trolling from the California native.
