Here’s The New Aunt Jemima Name + Logo

It’s a life-changing day for Americans who love a good breakfast. The beloved and renowned maple syrup company Aunt Jemima has officially been changed for good in the wake of last summer’s Black Lives Matter global movement.

PepsiCo Announces Aunt Jemima Change

PepsiCo, its parent company, has filed a trademark for the Pearl Milling Company to go in place of Aunt Jemima. They’ve also come up with a new logo and announced they are turning a page due to the original racist stereotypes of the brand. Pearl Milling Company was the original corporation in the 19th-century that created their famous pancake mix.

“While the Aunt Jemima brand was updated over the years in a manner intended to remove racial stereotypes, it has not progressed enough to appropriately reflect the dignity, respect and warmth that we stand for today.” – PepsiCo

2 Chainz Trolls Pepsi Over Weeknd’s Halftime Show

Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz noticed something very interesting about the Pepsi Super Bowl LV halftime performance. Deuce came forward to react to The Weeknd putting on a stunning set but also acknowledge a key theme in the singer’s tunes. Deuce hopped onto Instagram with a hilarious observation. Despite the halftime show being perceived as PG for viewers, Chainz acknowledged Weeknd’s content and played on the fact it was presented by Coca-Cola rival Pepsi.

“the Pepsi halftime show but every song is about coke”

“? legendary”

The Weeknd Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Greatness

For nearly 20 minutes, Weeknd came through with hits everyone could remember. From his most recent singles to classics he started his career out with in the early 2010s, the Toronto crooner held every generation down at the Pepsi-sponsored event.

He opened with “Starboy” and “The Hills.” When he did “Can’t Feel My Face,” he went into a tight mirrored corridor accompanied by a bunch of people with their faces bandaged up. He reemerged for “I Feel It Coming” and “Save Your Tears.” A string section joined him for “Earned It.” The Weeknd and his dancers hit the field for “House of Balloons” (yes—a Siouxsie and the Banshees sample played at the Super Bowl) and then a massive performance of “Blinding Lights.” (Pitchfork)

The Weeknd Deals With Grammy Snub

When Grammy nominations were announced in November and The Weeknd was completely snubbed for his album After Hours, no one could believe it. The artist reacted by calling the awards “corrupt” and demanding answers. In a recent Billboard magazine cover story, he promised he had moved on.

“Look, I personally don’t care anymore. I have three Grammys, which mean nothing to me now, obviously. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I want the Grammy!’ It’s just that this happened, and I’m down to get in front of the fire, as long as it never happens again. I suck at giving speeches anyways. Forget awards shows.”
