During a conversation with “Breakfast Club” guest Dr. Umar Johnson, Envy dealt with the consequence of speaking up in law enforcement’s favor.

“I’m not gon’ lie, I must be a coon because I don’t agree with you on this one. … This situation, my only thing is this, and you’re talking to somebody whose father is a retired cop, alright?. Now, when that cop pulled up, he doesn’t know friend or foe. He doesn’t know who called the police.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Initially, Envy appeared in a broadcast with “Breakfast Club” co-host Charlamagne Tha God and attempted to help people consider both sides of the teenager’s death. The New York native suggested the police officer did what was supposed to be done given the circumstance.

“Every case is different, and in this case, if I pull up to a scene and see a girl chasing another girl, about to stab a girl, my job as a police officer is to make sure that girl doesn’t get killed and the law allows me to stop that killing or that stabbing by any means necessary. That’s what the law allows me to do, on both sides.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

This is beyond sad. … There was absolutely no time between celebrating the conviction of Derek Chauvin & having to mourn Ma’Khia Bryant…. This is really numbing !!! … It’s really scary raising black children in this country. No matter how much we prepare them for these police encounters they can still be killed.”
